About BARC - Busot Animal Rescue Charity
BARC (Busot Animal Rescue Concern) is a non-profit animal rescue charity based in Alicante, Spain. Founded in 2008 our mission is to resvue, care for and rehome abandoned, neglected and unwanted animals, giving them a second chance at a happy life.
Our dedicated volunteers work tirelessly to help dogs, cats and other animals in need. At our BARCLAND animal rescue centre near Busot, we provide shelter, veterinary treatment, rehabilitation and care while helping rescued animals find loving permanent homes.
BARC relies on donations, volunteers, fundraising events and our charity shops in Busot and El Campello to continue this important animal rescue work.
In the last six years we have rescued and provided a home for or rehabilitated more than 1,000 animals. WE FOLLOW A POLICY OF “DO NOT KILL”, except by veterinary prescription for humanitarian reasons.
When BARC first rescues an abadoned or lost dog
in Busot, Alicante, our first priority is to check whether the dog has a microchip. If one is found we work with the relevant authorities to help reunite the dog with it´s owner.
If the owner cannot be found the dog receives appropriate veterinary care, including health checks, vaccinations, microchipping and any necessary medical treatment. At our BARCLAND animal rescue centre, we provide a safe and caring environment while preparing rescued dogs for adoption into loving homes.
BARC operates BARCLAND, our animal rescue centre near Busot, Alicante, situated on approximately 10,500 square metres of land. Here, rescued and abandoned dogs receive shelter, veterinary care and rehabilitation while waiting for loving permanent homes.
An additional 3,200 square metres of land is dedicated to CATLAND, our separate cat rescue area. Although BARCLAND and CATLAND are both part of Busot Animal Rescue Concern (BARC), the cats have their own dedicated space, separate from the dogs, where they can live safely and receive the care they need.
Last year we provided help to stray cats
with a program funded in large part by the Busot City Council. From February 2018 to September of that same year, more than 80 cats were collected, taken to the vet and spayed before being released again. BARC has continued to support this initiative by paying for the treatment of more cats.
Fundraising Events for BARC Animal Rescue
BARC organises charity fundraising events in Busot, El Campello and surrounding
areas of Alicante to help support our animal rescue work.
These events, together with income from our charity shops, donations and the
generosity of our supporters, help fund veterinary treatment, food, shelter and the
everyday care of rescued dogs and cats.
Our fundraising activities also bring the local community together, raising awareness of animal welfare and helping us continue rescuing and rehoming abandoned animals in the Alicante region.

BARC works closely with the local community to help abandoned and neglected
animals in Busot and the surrounding Alicante area. We are grateful for the support of Busot Town Hall, local businesses, volunteers and residents who help make our animal rescue work possible.
We use Facebook, our website and local fundraising events to promote dogs and cats needing homes, share rescue stories and raise awareness of animal welfare.

Volunteers are essential to the work of Busot Animal Rescue Concern (BARC). By

There are many ways to help, including volunteering in our charity shops, assisting
with fundraising events, transporting animals to veterinary appointments and
providing temporary foster homes for dogs and cats in need.
Foster carers play an especially important role by providing a safe and loving
temporary home while rescued animals wait for permanent adoption. BARC provides food and covers agreed veterinary expenses during foster care.
